there is a lot running through my head right now. I saw The Davinci Code (Da Vinci Code?) yesterday, and i liked it. First off, let me just say that Paul Bettany was fantastic. and he scared the heck out of me in that one scene. moving on, i didn't even notice the "heavy dialogue" because as someone who hasn't read the book, it helped me understand what was going on. It was sincerely interesting to me cuz i love history, and i love treasure-hunting type movies (National Treasure, etc.). But it was hard close to the end where Tom Hanks' character was like "you [what's-her-face] are the last remaining descendant of Jesus Christ" (or something to that effect), first of all my dad made an audible "hmmm", and it just kind of broke my concentration on the movie, and brought me back to the reality that this whole movie/book thing is based on a potentially dangerous lie. on one hand i was excited about this movie because as a Christian it isn't going to sway me in any way; it's just a cool movie, but on the other hand thousands of people that see it Are going to come away thinking "holy crap, could this be true". It seems that if you're going to be a credible witness to people around you, there is SO much you have to know about every little thing evil brings into the world to try and fool people. You'd have to spend every spare moment reading, researching in order to be equipt to answer people's questions, even debate with them. This all leaves me feeling terribly inadequate. Like the scene where (i'm sorry i don't remember anyone's name), that professor guy was telling Tom and that girl about Mary Magdalene being in The Last Supper, and reading from the Gospel of Philip and stuff; that just struck me that this guy knows pretty much everything about this, and even if it's a lie, how the heck would I, and other people like me, win an arguement with him? This task that Jesus calls us to is no joke. It's intensely serious. The hard part is that we're all signed up, but who's actually going to war?
