oven fires

my culinary skills showed their true colors as my oven burst into flames on saturday. that sounded like a news headline. but weren't you all just waiting for something like this to happen to me? i've posted my crazy cooking/baking stories before, well this is the only one that involves fire thankfully. So me and phil and eric decided to have pizza for supper, but i was already using the oven for baking banana loaf/muffins (which turned out great by the way). so i tried putting both pizza's on one rectangular pan, but their edges stuck over the edge. no big deal we thought (except for phil, who knew what would happen but neglected to share his opinion), so i stuck it into the oven. about 10 minutes later i opened the oven and both sides had flopped over the edge and the toppings were dripping onto the oven bottom. so we put them in one by one after that. BUT. about 15 minutes after that, phil goes "HOLLY!" and runs to the oven. he opened it to reveal the toppings burning brightly in my oven. yay. we quickly debated if it was baking powder or soda that puts out fire, and apparently it is soda. good work phil. so the pizza had a nice smoky flavor to it, which i actually didn't realize until now was probably due to their being a fire in the oven whilst it was baking. ha. anyways, good times in my kitchen.

ps. spenst has a new steak & cheese pizza, and it is fabulous.
